Carrie Biggs-Adams, a San Francisco-based business representative who bargains contracts for her local union, has been part of the CWA for the past 41 years.
“Our local represents people in California and Oregon at various television stations. I sit at the negotiating table and represent people’s issues – trying to get better wages, working conditions, and economic justices for union members. We fix these issues one negotiation at a time,” she explained. “Right now I’m bargaining with a public broadcasters and a Spanish language television station.
But bargaining union contracts was not always part of Biggs-Adams career aspirations.
“I started out working as a television engineer and we went on strike six weeks after I went to work there. I was the eighth woman in a thousand men in that particular bargaining unit. Since those days, I’ve worked for 15 years on the national staff with the CWA as part of NABET,” she said.
